Why Should I Make A Will?

The consequences of not making a Will can be very significant.

If a person dies without having made a Will their estate will be distributed in accordance with the Intestacy Rules laid down by Parliament in 1925.  This is commonly referred to as dying intestate.

Inheritance Tax - Reducing Your Liability

When property prices are increasing, more people are finding themselves in the position of being liable for Inheritance Tax.  Inheritance Tax is imposed, at present, at a rate up to 40% on any part of your estate that exceeds £325,000.00 in value.

Power Of Attorney

.Powers of Attorney are legal documents which authorises someone (your Attorney) to make decisions and to administer your affairs on your behalf in certain circumstances.  The Law changed in respect of the documentation of Powers of Attorney on the 1st October 2007.  Up to that date, the Authority was often documented in what was called an Enduring Power of Attorney (“EPA”) which was a short simple document which only needed to be registered at the Court of Protection if the person giving the authority became mentally incapacitated.
